Getting started

Reps opens to an empty screen. Nothing ships in the app, so the first twenty minutes are about building something small enough to finish and real enough to use.

1. Make one class

A class is a course you are enrolled in. Biology 111, not Science.

Resist setting up your whole timetable. One class you have work due in this week is the right amount to start with.

2. Add a subject inside it

A subject is a unit inside the class, and it holds the cards. Biology 111 might hold Cell Biology and Genetics.

There is no third level, deliberately. Deeper nesting turns organising into a hobby.

One note before you build a lot: cards cannot be moved between subjects later. Deciding where something belongs when you write it is worth the extra second.

3. Write five cards

Not fifty. Five, from the lecture you had most recently.

The rule that matters more than any other: one idea per card, and a question with exactly one answer. "Describe the Krebs cycle" is not a card. "Where does the Krebs cycle occur?" is.

A card can carry a photo on the front, the back or both, and there is a drawing pad for anything easier drawn than typed.

4. Run your first review

Read the front, answer in your head, flip, and rate yourself:

RatingMeaning
AgainYou did not know it. The card returns later in this same session.
HardYou got it, with real struggle.
GoodYou got it. This is the normal answer.
EasyInstant, no effort.

Hard, Good and Easy are all correct answers. The most common mistake is pressing Hard when you mean "I got it but it took a second", which drags the card's schedule down for months.

5. Put your next exam on the scheduler

Add it with its date and attach it to the class you just made. It appears with a live countdown and a prep bar reading something like 2 of 5 learned, counted from cards in that subject not currently due back.

With five cards that number is meaningless. In three weeks it will be the most useful number on your screen.

What tomorrow looks like

Open the app and there is one figure: cards due today across everything, with a breakdown by class. Answer them. Add a few new cards from whatever you covered that day.

Ten to twenty new cards a day is sustainable for most people. Fifty a day becomes unmanageable by week three.

FAQs

Are there any decks I can download?

No. Nothing ships in the app, and there is no shared deck library. Import accepts .reps files sent by classmates who made them.

How long should a session take?

The home screen estimates it from your due count. Twenty minutes is typical once a library is established.

What if I fall behind?

Cards pile up as overdue and wait. There is no daily cap, so the backlog appears in one session and you work through it. Do not reset anything.

Should I back anything up before reorganising?

Yes. Export the subject as a .reps file first. Deleting is immediate and it syncs to your other devices, so a quick export is worth the few seconds.
